Studio

LRA Retinue is RIBA Chartered with award winning heritage and an excellent track record in taking concepts through the planning process to completion. We create beautiful, inspiring and successful outcomes for our clients via our fresh, ethical approach to architecture and passion for design.

LRA Retinue is based in Brighton and works throughout the UK and Internationally. Projects span a range of industry sectors; from bespoke private homes to residential development, education & arts, leisure & hospitality, civic, mixed-use & commercial (including retail), master-planning, listed buildings and restoration.

Our approach is fuelled by a desire to provide a new dimension to the typical response, and to develop effective and long-term working relationships with all stakeholders in each project.

The practice is increasingly involved in regeneration in all its forms – from the smallest to the largest projects, from the more subtle and discreet to the most overt and encompassing – no matter what the context, the same desire pervades; to leave a positive, lasting legacy that is timeless and joyful. Reinvigorating and breathing life into areas, whilst respecting the local environment, supporting sustainability, cultural diversity and the people that inhabit and use those spaces. Sustainability is integral to what we do and as members of the AECB (Association for Environment Conscious Building) we encourage all our clients to engage in this way of thinking.

Why

We believe in a better, sustainable future. We disrupt the assumptions of the present. Our ethos balances purpose with profit.

How

The way we create a better future is through ingenuity and design with people and the environment at the heart of every decision.

What

We create wonderful buildings and spaces.

Good Foundations

When establishing the Practice in 2007, Liam's vision was to create inspiring, innovative and rewarding-for-all architecture. Each member of the team who has since joined the practice shares both this vision and a genuine belief that buildings should be beautiful, engaging and thought-provoking. The practice strongly believes that architecture can help to positively shape the way in which people live their lives and every project the practice delivers has this approach.

Aim High

With each project we aim for the highest achievement possible from the collective inputs of the brief, the context and the requirements of those affected by the proposals. We look at every project as a challenge as well as an opportunity to add value and exceed expectations. Our approach is fuelled by a desire to provide a new dimension to the typical response, and to develop effective and long-term working relationships with all stakeholders in each project.

Creative Champions

We operate in a studio environment where all members work within the same creative space – this ensures a natural cultivation of information between projects, leading to accountability from all members. Creative input from the team on any project is actively encouraged, with design debates driving our constant desire to produce exciting and original responses to briefs. We regard ourselves as custodians of the built environment and as champions of the very best design.

A Rare Breed

Following an independent industry poll, our clients found us to be a conceptual practice with the ability to build. We believe this places us in the rare category of architectural practices that are in the business of designing both buildable and inspiring buildings. Sustainability lies at the very core of what we do and is enshrined in our mission statement. We refrain from badging our projects as ‘eco’ or ‘green’ as, in-fact, every project is aiming to be as sustainable as can be achieved.

The way we create a better future is through ingenuity and design with people and the environment at the heart of every decision.
